Kmart Forever

If you're interested in the history of this Kmart, please read about it here . The purpose of this post is to showcase what remains from Kmart #4373 in At Home #184. These exterior blocks of stone were added in the 1993 remodel of this Kmart. Kmart's circular poles remain throughout the store, although without the grey stripe across the bottom. At Home's restrooms, this would have been where the garden shop doors were at Kmart. Looking into the main salesfloor, there aren't any actual remains of Kmart here, but this image gives a decent perspective of the store's layout Marks left from Kmart's tile flooring And we're sure this isn't still a Kmart? 😂 Heading back outside, we find ourselves at the former garden shop. And to wrap things up, here's the former Penske auto center... vacant since 2003.

So, digging through some of my older photos earlier today, I came across a photo of my now-closed local Sears, Lancaster, PA, so I figured I'd post it here. Photo taken March 10, 2019.

Kmart #3416, located at 2090 Lincoln Hwy E (1 East Towne Mall) in Lancaster, Pennsylvania originally opened as a Grant City. It became Kmart in February 1977. Kmart closed in May 2015 , becoming Gabe's within that same year. In 2018, Gabe's was downsized, adding A. C. Moore to the right side. (and we all know what happened to A. C. Moore ). The auto center has been occupied by Automotive Masters since the mid-2000s. Sears in the Lancaster Shopping Center, (the first Suburban shopping center in Lancaster), located at  1515 Lititz Pike opened in 1958 as the relocation of a store in downtown Lancaster. It remained open there until it relocated to the Park City Mall in 1972. The store then became an A. C. Moore Arts & Crafts store, which closed in early 2020 with the rest of the chain, leaving the building to be abandoned once again.  Quick Information: Opened: 1958 Closed: 1972 Address: 1515 Lititz Pike Photographed: October 2020

This location opened in 1972 as one of the original mall anchors. This Sears location closed on March 10, 2019, leaving the only Sears in Central-Pennsylvania to be the store in Harrisburg , which is still operating. In August 2019, it was announced that Round1 games and food would be occupying the space. Their façade is almost finished on the upper level. This Kmart opened in the East Towne Center in 1977, as the second Kmart in Lancaster County. The store closed in May 2015 and became Gabe's around 2016. Around 2018, the Gabe's was downsized and an A. C. Moore store was added. In early 2020, the A. C. Moore permanently closed with the rest of the chain, leaving part of the building to be vacant again. An older photo I took about two years ago. I plan to return soon and get a better quality picture. Kmart #4373, located at 1890 Fruitville Pike in Lancaster, Pennsylvania opened in 1970 as the first Kmart in Lancaster County. Others would follow including stores in Lancaster (1977-2015), Ephrata (1981-2020), Elizabethtown (1982-1993), Elizabethtown (1993-2019), Columbia (1991-2020), and Willow Street (1991-2021). This Kmart was expanded in 1993 after the neighboring Weis Market closed. The store was closed in March 2017 and is now occupied by At Home and Aldi.
