Sears #1244, one of the original four anchors at the York Galleria mall, opened on November 4, 1989 as the last to open in the area (Harrisburg was first, Reading was second, Lancaster was third, this one was fourth). It became the first to fall, however, being announced for closure on April 26, 2018 (Just a week after the York Galleria's Bon-Ton was announced for closure), and it closed in August 2018.
In February 2018, Penn National Gaming expressed interest in opening a mini-casino at the York Galleria. The casino opened on August 12, 2021 in the lower level of the former Sears.
